However, Brebeuf is setup for a big year and they were able to hold of Anderson for a 56-47 win backed by 20 points from Simon Banks. Anderson now moves to 4-11 while Brebeuf Jesuit sits at 9-4
MVP: Simon Banks (Brebeuf Jesuit)
The best player in the gym on Tuesday was Banks. The 6’3 guard looked so much more confident and aggressive and dominated on offense pretty much every time he touched the ball. His perimeter jumper looks improved and he’s got such a great body and frame that he plows through most players to finish. He finished with 20 points, hitting three triples. 5/11 from the free throw line seemed like the only chink in his armor.
Best Offensive Performance: Zak Milhouse (Anderson)
Outside on Banks, Milhouse looked really good. He’s become so much more capable with the ball in his hands and the jumper is enough of a weapon right now that when he is feeling it you know it is going in. He’s still building up in terms of skill but his handles given him a chance to make many different plays on offense. Looked aggressive once again. He finished with 13 points on the night.
Best Defensive Performance: Myja White (Brebeuf Jesuit)
Easily not Myja’s best night but pretty solid for a guy who finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds. He was really good on both ends of the floor, grabbing big rebounds and even a big block late in the second half. He’s such a willing defender and in high school that means so much. He gave a ton of effort and while his offense wasn’t always pretty, the defense made up for it.
Best Guy Off The Bench: JoMel Boyd (Anderson)
Boyd is a guy who is still starting to come into his own but the guard always seems to make a play or two in each game that shows where he can go. He had a nice slash to the rim from the left side of the arc where he was able to just barely get through the defense for a fairly tough finish at the rim. He played much better in this game than the last we saw and it looks like he might be able to take another step in his development by the end of the season if he continues to be assertive. Anderson could use another guy to step up on offense.
Best Underclassmen: Spencer Reist (Brebeuf Jesuit)
While Banks is likely the best underclassmen, Reist is right there with him. The 6’1 shooter has so many areas of his game that are fun to watch. He’s a great shooter and has a swagger and confidence to him that you think he could go on a run and his three or four in a row. He will need to really add weight to his frame but even so, he plays with such aggressiveness at times and confidence that it won’t hold him back too much.
