OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the top prospects and performances at the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints Classic held last Thursday through Saturday. The field featured eight teams, five from Kansas and three from Missouri.
Teams
Barstow (Mo.), Battle (Mo.), Blue Valley (Kan.), Free State (Kan.), Olathe East (Kan.), Pembroke Hill (Mo.), Saint Thomas Aquinas (Kan.), Washburn Rural (Kan.).
Trae Meny, 6’4, 2018, Battle (Mo.)
Coach’s son that has a strong all-around game, especially at the offensive end where he has a smooth perimeter shot that extends well beyond the 3-point arc, the ability to create a little off the bounce and willingness to move without the ball and get easy baskets off cuts. One of the better players in the central Missouri area in the 2018 class.
PICTURED: Harry Van Dyne, 6’5, 2017, Free State (Kan.)
The University of Minnesota football recruit showed off his athletic ability with several highlight slams, including one on Thursday against Washburn Rural that was waved off. He can do a little bit of everything well on the wing, but his best attribute is his all-around athletic ability.
Sloan Thomsen, 6’6, 2017, Free State (Kan.)
He has a big, athletic frame with terrific size and strong perimeter skills including a smooth shooting stroke that extends to the 3-point arc, as well as the ability to mix it up in the paint a little. Has heard from several Division II programs this season.
Angelo Allegri, 6’6, 2017, St. Thomas Aquinas (Kan.)
He continues to impress with his all-around play this season. A long, athletic player, Allegri is a good rebounder, versatile defender and has an inside-outside game. Is able to score in the paint, as well as step out and handle the ball and shoot from the arc. He’s definitely flying under the radar this season.
