Recruiting Report: Aaron Rivers (2017)
TIMMONSVILLE — Aaron Rivers is a senior small forward at Timmonsville High School. He is averaging 17.1 a game, with 13.1 rebounds to lead the team. Rivers is in the top-five in scoring and in rebounds in the Pee Dee regions. Rivers was also named to the Florence Morning News preseason boys’ All-Pee Dee basketball team.
He is trying to lead the Whirlwinds to the State championship for the first time in school history. Last year the team was knocked out in the first round of the Class A playoffs by Hemingway. He is a two-year starter with 478 career points and 377 rebounds. He has scored in double-figures in every game but one where he scored only five points aganist Cheraw in the Pepsi Carolina Classic at West Florence High School.
He played his freshman season at Lamar High School where he averaged 5.0 points a game. The Whirlwinds are 6-6 and 0-1 in Region 2-A this year. Rivers was also named to the SCBCA Class A preseason top seniors in Class A list. He is a strong undersized post player that works block to block with his back to the basket. He can step-out and knockdown the 15 footer. Rivers isn’t skilled enough to play on the perimeter as small forward. He is undersized as a power forward. Aaron Rivers said,” I need to sharpen my skills for the next level.” Also, I need to get more mental-tough and work harder than I ever had for the next level.”
Rivers is also played football for Timmonsville where he played wide receiver on team. Timmonsville Coach Wright says, “Rivers is hard working on the floor.” Rivers work hard to improve on his game before and during practice.Rivers is a captain of the Whirlwinds basketball team. In college he would focus on basketball. He is getting looks by Brunswick Community College and Allen University.
