“People know me more as a shooter which allows me to drive the ball and score/create plays for my teammates,” he said. “I can score a lot but also try to get everyone else involved.”
A 6’1 shooting guard, King spent the offseason playing for Next Level Elite and hoped to use the opportunity to gain some exposure. He said the last time he played AAU basketball was in the eighth-grade when he competed for MoKan Elite.
“I feel like I can play and compete with anybody,” he said. “I was also focused on getting looks from colleges.”
King has helped Blue Springs is off to a 7-5 start this season while playing a tough early-season schedule. King, 2018 guard RJ Lawrence and 2018 big man Daniel Parker Jr. help form a tough inside-outside combination and King says the expectations are high for the remainder of the season.
“As a team I feel like we have some solid players in all positions, which allow us to compete with top rated teams in our league,” King said. “Individually I feel that my role is to be a consistent player offensively and defensively so I can help lead my team win games.”
He said he looks forward to the Wildcats’ match-ups against Lee’s Summit West, widely considered one of the KC area’s top teams. After falling to LSW in the championship game of the William Jewell Tournament, Blue Springs upset the Titans on Jan. 6, 56-53.
“They always have talented players,” King said. “My game is elevated when I play against top talent.”
King said his mother has been the biggest influence on his basketball career.
“She not only played collegiate volleyball and basketball, she coached a lot of the teams I have played on,” he said. “She and my step-dad don’t miss a game and they are always on my side.”
A fan of Steph Curry, King says he likes how the Golden State guard creates his own shot, and says he also enjoys watch Kansas guard Frank Mason.
King does not currently hold any offers, but has drawn interest from Northwest Missouri State and Emporia State for both basketball and football, and Southwest Baptist University in basketball only. He has taken visits to all three schools.
