Svihel’s averaging 15 points per game on the season and 20 in conference play. The Saints had a brutal December which included a six-game losing streak. But in their last eight games, they are 6-2.
“It’s been going pretty good,” Svihel said of the season. “We just played North Branch and got a good win. We’re right around .500 right now so we’re doing pretty well.”
Svihel’s taken his game to another level this year as he’s expanded his game from a back-to-the-basket post player to more of a combo forward. At 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, Svihel presents mismatches for the opposition because he’s big and strong enough to post up against smaller defenders but quick enough to get to the basket against bigger guys.
“I’ve had to fill different roles over the years,” said Svihel. “I’m more of a wing now. I used to play inside so I’ve still got work to do when it comes to my ball handling and outside shooting but I get to the rim well and use my size.”
Svihel’s drawn interest from several local colleges including University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Stout and Gustavus.
“It’s going really well,” Svihel said of the recruitment process. “I’d like to weigh my options a little more and see what some of the other schools say. I’m not in a big hurry to make a decision.”
