“I’m really versatile,” Spurlock began when asked to describe his game. “Right now, I’m more of a forward. I’m trying to work on my guard skills to become more of a guard, cause I can handle. I think I’m going to be a guard or a 3 in college.”
Spurlock has been an absolute workhorse for Cavaliers Head Coach Doug Craig. We saw him snag 16 boards and block 5 shots in his team’s win over Stone Bridge. Initially known for his defense, energy and athleticism, the 6’7 junior is evolving into a serious offensive threat.
“My shooting is most improved,” Spurlock said, also citing his rebounding and ability to attack the basket as other areas of improvement. “I’ve been lifting a lot. I’ve gotten a lot more athletic.”
Spurlock, who has a 3.7 GPA, recently received his first scholarship offer from Mount St. Mary’s. Along with the Mount, Radford and Army have each hosted Spurlock for campus visits.
“I can facilitate,” Said Spurlock about one thing he does on the court that most people don’t realize. “I facilitate our offense. Get assists.”
If Spurlock can continue to improve his defense, ball handling and become more consistent with his shot, he has a chance to develop into one of the more well-rounded prospects in Virginia’s 2018 class.
What can a coach interested in recruiting Spurlock expect him to bring to a program at the college level?
“I’m gonna give it my all. In practice and every game. I’m always going to be hustling.”
