The team is 14-1, ranked No. 8 in NHR’s AA rankings, has a certified stud in Pepperdine-signed Trae Berhow and has several other important cogs to the machine in the senior class. That definitely includes 6-foot-7 big man McKinley Gehlhausen.
“We have Ben Theisen, Trae Berhow, Ethan McClearly, Drew Thibault, and Riley Alger,” Gehlhausen said. “All are very good players. We also have valuable players who come off the bench who can fill our roles. Our community has been talking about our senior class ever since we were young.”
The state tournament is the clear goal for this W-M unit.
“We are having a very successful season so far,” McKinley added. “We have a very strong team this year. It’s fun to play with a group of guys that are talented. We are hoping to make a run at state with year.”
Some D3 colleges have spoken with McKinley about his college basketball future.
“I plan to play basketball in college. I haven’t decided where I want to go yet,” he said. “Some schools that have talked to me have been UW- Stout, Hamline, St. Scholastica, Augsburg, UM-Morris and Crown College. I like to be in a smaller community/school, and I’m still trying to decide on my major.”
McKinley is averaging 12 PPG. Watertown-Mayer’s next game is tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 26 at New London-Spicer.
