A 6-foot-3 guard, Austin still has his the rest of his junior season and his 17U spring and summer to turn that initial interest into additional offers.
“I got one offer from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, they’ve been talking to me a lot and have been showing me a lot of love,” said Austin.
“And then I have a lot of interested schools, like Boise State, Oregon State and some other schools. Also Gonzaga has been sending some mail, just some little posters about their season.”
The Seattle Academy combo guard says right now his focus is playing his best during his junior season with the Cardinals, and he’s letting the chips falls where they may with his recruitment.
“Really I’m just taking it one game at a time, and trying to do everything as best I can,” said Austin. “As far as the recruitment goes: what will happen will happen, and what won’t, won’t. So as far as the recruitment goes, I just try my hardest everyday and see how everything goes.”
Austin is a good-sized guard who considers his strength as being a playmaker, from either the point guard or shooting guard spots.
“Some of my strengths as a player are really being able to get to the rim and make a lot of plays for my teammates. And being aggressive on defense, and creating a lot of havoc on the defensive end,” he said.
“What I need to work on is getting more consistent with my jump-shot, especially my mid-range, like one-dribble attack and pull-up. And also, of course, working on my 3-pointers, and then just being a better leader for my team.”
His role with Seattle Academy this season is being a playmaker, and he’s really emphasizing his leadership too.
“I’ve been focusing on being a better leader, and recognizing what needs to be done,” said Austin. “So I think that’s the big difference between last season and this season.”
