Prep Hoops caught up with Conway’s 6’4 junior guard Darren Grainger who provided updates on his recruitment, timetable to return, and his teams success. Grainger was involved in a car and has yet to play this season, as he suffered a broken ankle in the crash. Conway is ranked in the state’s top 5, despite Grainger’s absence. He told Prep Hoops his boot is coming off in mid-January, but there is no timetable for his return.
You were offered by Limestone early August what did getting your first offer feel like ?
It felt great, just to get my first offer but I knew it was only the beginning and more will come
What was the visit to Old Dominion like ?
It was great up there, great atmosphere. They have a real good team.
Who else has been recruiting you ?
Stetson, South Carolina State, Army West Point, and Old Dominion
What do you feel you need to improve on ?
I believe just getting my jumpshot more consistent and making smarter decisions.
Personally what do you feel like you can bring to a college program ?
A great motor, team player, length, and a person that can put the ball in the bucket many ways.
You’ve been transitioning back from a car accident and a broken ankle and have yet to play this season how has it been for you mentally ?
I have my dad making sure I’m in the right state of mind. It’s hard watching my teammates play and I can’t be out there but I make sure I cheer them on and be a great supporter.
When is your timetable for return ?
I’m not really sure but I get my boot off the 16th and I will see what happens then.
Your team is 10-1 and currently #4 in the state what has been a key to the success and hot start ?
They just playing great team basketball a bunch of people can hurt you on any night.
