The 6-foot-5 guard says he wasn’t expecting to see his recruitment come so quickly and so abundantly. And he rattled off several Division I programs that have shown at least initial interest.
“I was surprised to hear that so many colleges were calling my coach, because I didn’t have anything at all and then all of a sudden things blew up,” said Coleman. “It happened about midway through the AAU season; it was like Central Michigan, Toledo, and Oakland, and then Missouri and DePaul. There’s been some D2 schools, and some some schools out in California.”
Coleman mentioned that he’s looking forward to the next step in the recruitment process: the offers.
“I’m hoping to get a couple offers here pretty soon, especially during this AAU season I feel like I should get some.” he said. “But I’m looking forward to the process, and getting my name out there more.”
A sharpshooter with an ability to slash to the hoop, Coleman is a versatile threat offensively.
“I feel like I spread the defense out because I’m a shooter and I have range,” he said. “But I’m not just a shooter because I can drive and kick, I’m a playmaker too. I like to get my teammates involved more than I like scoring.”
Coleman hit a snag when he suffered a broken ankle in late-December after playing in just four games. He’s targeting a mid-February return to action.
“With the few games I played this year I was more of a leader than I was last year,” said Coleman. “I feel I’m more influential this year and I think I’ve matured from last year compared to this year.”
