The 5’10” Jones plays the game with a high motor and a relentless passion at both ends of the floor. He excels in the Bulldogs fierce attacking zone traps, which take place all over the floor. It also translates to the offensive end for Jones, who loves to attack the basket.
“I just love to play with a lot of emotion and energy,” Jones said. “I play that way for my mother because of everything she does for me. It motivates me.”
On a team led by All-State Division I prospect Fred Thatch, Jr., Jones is the perfect wing man for the undefeated Bulldogs, who are one of the prime state contenders in Class 4. As a freshman, Jones helped the Bulldogs to a fourth-place finish in the state tournament. He had an incredible fourth quarter in the state semifinals against Vashon in which he scored 10 points, including a 3-pointer to send the game into overtime. Vashon went on to win the game in overtime and win the state title the following night.
“We came close last year, but we didn’t finish,” Jones said. “Our goal is to get back to state this year and focus on winning the championship. Losing last year motivates us even more.”
As a sophomore, Jones has added another valuable weapon to his arsenal, which is a reliable perimeter shot. During the summer with the St. Louis Eagles 15U team, Jones unleashed an excellent stroke from 3-point range. Once a player who defenders could back off, Jones is now a player who could go on a binge of four or five 3-pointers in a row to break a game open.
“When I got to high school, I was not a good shooter,” Jones said. “The coaches really worked with me on my mechanics and I got much better at it. It feels good because people cannot back off me and let me shoot. I’m more of an all-around basketball player.”
