The Wildcats are averaging more than 80 points a game, which is a big reason why they are 16-2 and one of the top teams in Mid-Missouri. The 6’4″ Parrish is the team’s best offensive threat with his versatile skill set, which includes ball handling, shooting and passing. With his size and ability, he is a difficult matchup against the teams in his area.
“I love playing in coach (Ron) Lebel’s system,” Parrish said. “It’s been great. For me, I can get to the basket and I can shoot it, so it’s a good combination.”
Parrish said he has heard from a few college coaches, but he hasn’t attracted a ton of recruiting interest. He is a player that definitely has the ability to play at the small college level, whether it’s a Division III or NAIA program. He can really score and he can get buckets in a variety of ways.
For the season, Parrish is averaging nearly 19.4 points and nearly nine rebounds a game while shooting 50 percent from the field and a respectable 36 percent from 3-point range. He scored a season-high 35 points in a victory over Missouri Military Academy earlier this month.
He has a nice touch around the basket when he posts up in the lane. He is also tough on the drive with his size and physical strength to get to the basket. He scores on nice short jumpers off the glass or runners. He can also step out and knock down 3-pointers if defenders sag off of him too much.
“It’s a big advantage when you can get to the basket, dish or make a jumper and you’re one of the tallest players out there,” he said.
With the Wildcats enjoying a banner season, Montgomery has his sights set on accomplishing some big team goals down the stretch.
“We haven’t won our conference in a long time, so that has been a big goal of ours,” he said. “We would also like to win our district. We just want to compete hard and be the best we can be every night.”
