Eackles has been an integral factor for a much-improved St. Mary’s Ryken team as a result of his hustle and unselfishness.
“I’m a team player to be honest with you. I’m not selfish with the ball at all,” Began Eackles, who has been around the game since he was a toddler. “I like to create for my teammates. It’s not all about me. We’re all one team. We all wear a shirt that says “together” on the back of it for a reason. That’s the type of player I hope to be.”
Ryken are off to a strong 12-7 start this year, with Eackles adding his fair share of contributions on both ends of the floor. He has come back strong this season after a sophomore year riddled with injury.
“Ever since I was younger I always had heart to go the extra mile,” said Eackles about the most underrated aspect of his game. “I think I have a lot of heart. I’m never afraid to put my body on the line for my teammates.”
Eackles is doing well in the classroom, where he sports a respectable 3.2 GPA. What position does he see himself playing at the next level?
“It’s getting more challenging out here so instead of just focusing on 1 or 2 positions I have to focus on being an all around player,” he stated.
While his recruitment is still in it’s infancy, don’t be surprised if Eackles begins to see it trend upwards as the latter part of the season approaches. What can coaches who are interested in recruiting Eackles expect him to bring to a college program?
“Just being there, supporting everybody even where they’re down.”
