At 6’2, Luinstra brings some size to the backcourt and plays with a high basketball IQ. He has the ability to knock 3-pointers, get to the bucket and find the open man.
He spent the offseason competing for MoKan Select 16U and the experience has translated to a breakout season on the hardwood. He is currently averaging 18 points per game and has helped the Firebird start the season 7-4, including xx.
He says he looks forward to playing against crosstown rival Lawrence in the regular season finale on Feb. 24, who beat the Firebirds in December, 61-57.
He says the most influential person in his basketball career has been his high school coach, xx Stoh.
“The person who has influenced me the most is probably my coach at Free State right now, coach Stroh,” Luinstra said. “He has taught me what hard work means.”
Luinstra says he is a fan of Kansas and enjoys watching Frank Mason, who he calls one of his favorite players in college basketball.
Luinstra says he hasn’t yet had any real interest from any college programs yet, but has been invited several NAIA camps.
