A 6’6 2017 forward, Mauck is a hard-working slasher that can play on the wing or in the post and has the ability to do a lot of different things.
He started his basketball career on the eighth-grade B team and the freshman B team, but says his family has been there to support him and the experience has made him work even harder.
Mauck is currently averaging 11 points and 7 rebounds for a squad that is off to a 5-3 start. He was named to the Blue Springs South and William Jewell Holiday Classic All-Tournament Teams.
“My family in general has had the biggest effect on my basketball career just based on the fact with how much they have supported me throughout all my years,” he said. “My family was there every step of the way to make sure I was putting my all into the game I love.”
Over the past two years, Blue Springs South has lost a lot of talented players, including Mizzou sophomore Kevin Puryear and Omaha freshman KJ Robinson, but BSS has started the season 5-3 with a new-look line-up.
“We don’t have a lot of returning letterman coming back from last year but many of us played JV last year and have been playing together for a long time so I think our chemistry is very good which is how we are able to compete even without the large number of returning letterman,” Mauck said. “We don’t really try and look ahead to teams in the future we just try and focus on the next game coming up and prepare the best we can. Obviously we look forward to those big conference games but we try and focus on one game at a time.”
Mauck played with Midwest Elite for the summer as well as the FOE Heat at Wichita Nationals and said one of his main focus points this summer was working on his ball-handling to become better off the bounce on the wing.
He doesn’t currently have any offers, but has taken an on-campus visit to Washburn and Graceland has showed interest as of late and Mauck hopes to visit the campus there soon. He has also drawn interest from Central College in Pella, Iowa and Lawrence University in Wisconsin.
Mauck says he is a fan of the Butler Bulldogs where he grandfather played.
“It’s fun to watch them because of how well they share the ball and none of them cares who scores and all of the players know what they need to do to help there team win,” Mauck said. “I definetly look up to how well their post players can pass to cutters or three point shooters spotting up.”
