And now, as one of the Rockets’ captains and leading scorers, DesArmo is making waves in Washington high school hoops.
He’s beginning to gain a reputation as a prolific scorer, and shooter.
“My strengths are definitely being the scorer of the team; if we need a bucket, I’m the guy we look to,” said DesArmo. “The past couple years I’ve just been a 3-point specialist, but the last couple of years I’ve worked to get my game more well-rounded too.”
After coming off the bench as a role player last season for Castle Rock, he’s starting as a captain and averaging 16 points per game as a junior.
“Last year we had a lot of talent on our team. We started four seniors, and I was a role guy; I came in to hit the corner 3,” he said. “This year is a lot different, I’m one of the captains and looked upon as one of the guys that the underclassmen look up to.”
Now that his success on the floor is starting to occur, DesArmo could see some recruitment come his way.
“Right now I haven’t really sent out anything to colleges, because I didn’t really have a lot to send out,” he said. “I’ve been to a couple camps at a couple local D3s, no big D1 or D2 yet. I’m going to send out a video to a couple hundred coaches after the season.”
Though he’s realistic as to where he may end up at the level, he’s still got some lofty goals for himself
“Every kids’ aspiration is to get that D1 scholarship, but at the same time I understand that a 6’2 guard who isn’t the fastest in the nation may not get that,” said DesArmo.
“My goal is to walk-on to a D1 school and earn my spot; either that or go to a JuCo and get stronger, get that college experience and then transfer somewhere.”
