Growing up and sharing your name with a former NBA player as your dad is sure to come with some perks, Sharone Wright Jr., of West Florence High School knows exactly what it is like. Sharone Wright Sr., played in the NBA for four seasons after being drafted out of Clemson University (two-time All-ACC selection) with the 6th pick in the 1994 NBA Draft. He would later spend almost seven years playing professionally overseas. The younger Sharone has developed into one of the best prospects in South Carolina.
Sharone Wright Jr., is ranked as the number two prospect in the PrepHoopsSC Top 80 for the class of 2018. He has helped lead West Florence High School to a 16-3 record overall this season while averaging 15.8 points and 6.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.1 steals per contest. The 6-foot-5 point guard played this past summer with the Karolina Khaos travel team on the Adidas circuit. He helped lead the team to a championship at Big Shots Columbia, he later scored 42 points against Mass Rivals in a win and was also named a top performer at Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions in Atlanta.
Wright has offers from some of the top college programs in the country including Memphis, Arkansas, Charlotte, Kansas State, UCF, Auburn, California, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, VCU, Clemson and Georgia have offered the junior. VCU Head Coach Will Wade will be in to see Wright Jr., tonight for their game against Socastee High School.
Scouting Report
With great size at 6-foot-5 for the point guard position he also has the length with a 6-foot-10 wingspan. He has great vision, very athletic, can consistently knock down a mid-range jump shot. He is also a lock-down defender in crunch time. He has a high basketball IQ and understands the point guard role. His head coach at West Florence, Josh Staley had this to say about his promising junior, “I think he is a talented player with the ability to develop into a truly good PG! He has size, reach, and intangibles can separate him into the class of the Rajon Rondo’s of the world.”
