Player Of The Week: Kobe Lovell
Windom sophomore Kobe Lovell got his chance due to a teammate’s injury, and it’s safe to say he made the most of it.
His 10 3-pointers against Luverne in a 70-64 loss was a new school record and the most in a single game that we’ve heard this year. The big performance and strong community support from Windom resulted in his nomination and winning our Player Of The Week Award for Jan. 2–8, presented by The Intensive Basketball Camp.
“Our point guard got hurt the game before, so before the game coach told me I would get two halves of varsity and one half of B-squad,” Lovell explained. “I was a little nervous before the game, but once I got in there, it went away and I was ready to go. It didn’t feel like I had ten threes by the end of the game. I had no clue until after the game when coach told me I had broken the record.”
That game was remarkably Lovell’s very first time playing both halves of a varsity contest.
“The year isn’t going like we would want it to go,” Lovell admitted, “but we are getting better each day. We are a very young team — we don’t have any seniors on the team — so it is a challenge, but it’s a challenge we have accepted. I believe we are 3-8 on the year, but I don’t think that shows how good we are. I believe the team you see right now is going to look different towards the end of the year.”
He does not have AAU plans at this time, as spring baseball takes up much of his schedule.
