He stands 5-foot-9 but plays much bigger while leading his team to a 15-3 record while averaging over 25 points per game. Earlier in November he scored 36 points and surpassed his 1,000th career point.
Darius BryantOn Friday night, Lexington High School lost it’s first Region game, 69-58 to rival Dutch Fork High School. Bryant made 5 three-pointers and was 2 of 3 on free throws for 27 points in the loss. He scored 26 points in the game earlier this week against McKennon High School. With Lexington High School moving up to the largest classification the 5-A Division of the South Carolina High School League this season, Bryant has a few goals for his senior season. “My goals are to win a state championship, and win Region player of the year, as well as 5-A player of the year.”
One of the keys to Bryant’s success is his ability to get his shot off even though he is 5-foot-9, he has one of the quickest releases that I have watched. He is a good ball-handler and is a streaky shooter. He can get on a roll and knock down 5,6, and 7 three-pointers in a row. He is a scoring guard who knows how to put the ball in the basket and that is something that a coach cannot teach.
His recruitment consists of Division One programs UNC- Asheville and Navy and Division Two programs Lincoln Memorial, Anderson, Newberry, and North Greenville so far. Bryant knows for him to be successful at the next level he will need to work on his strength and speed. With him being a little undersized this could really change his recruitment if he continues to work on those attributes.
