Smith was on campus for his second time, the first was to play a regular season game.
“I have been there before, when we played,” said Smith. “Regular season against North Lawndale.”
The trip was organized by Illinois T-Wolves AAU Coach Kent Robinson.
“They had invited us up,” said Coach Robinson. “I brought Mike and Charles because they are definitely aspiring to go to Division One basketball.”
Coach Robinson wanted them to get a little bit of the college atmosphere. UIC hosted Oakland University.
Smith tabs himself a shooting guard.
“I play point guard some times,” said the 6-foot-1 Smith.
Smith attended the PrepHoops Top250 Camp in the fall. Previously, with the T-Wolves he thrived.
“We did pretty good,” said Smith. “I (learned) to come off ball screens. Shooting a little bit and working on my dribbling.”
For the rest of the season he wants to become a better leader and a better dribbler.
Style of Play
Both McKinney and Smith play with Teyvion Kirk (2017 guard) on Joliet West. Kirk originally signed with Drake and decommitted after Drake Head Coach Ray Giacoletti resigned.
Kirk is a surefire D1 prospect. His evaluation of Smith places the junior guard in lofty company too.
