SG Marquis Kennedy (Crete Monee – 2019)
Kennedy is a new name on our radar. The 6’1” combo guard put on a show on both ends of the floor. Thought his defensive intensity set the tone for his game and his team. Quick and angular guard that gets up in your face and doesn’t give the opponent much room to move. Had multiple steals that he turned into points on the other end. Good ball handler that attacked the rack. Also hit several threes. Prospect on the rise had 28 points. He will go from unranked to top 50 status in the next update.
G Detalian Brown (Morton – 2019)
Very intrigued with this 6’1” sophomore combo guard. Brown has the ability to run the point some, but is also a scorer. Fluid athlete that looks comfortable on a big court playing against older players. Has solid strength and projectability in his frame. Gets after it on the defensive end of the floor with his tenacity. Handles it well against pressure and initiates the offense when playing on the ball. Finishes well in the lane and can hit an occasional jumper. Brown had 16 points. The Morton sophomore will make his debut in the next update.
F Chris Payton (Bloomington – 2019)
The Bloomington sophomore is a 6’6” combo forward that plays mostly on the interior. His biggest presence was felt on the defensive end of the floor where he blocked shots. He had some monster ones including pinning one on a controversial call late. Explosive leaper that protects the rim. Rebounds well using his elite athleticism to high point balls above his opponents. Offensively he still isn’t overly skilled. Hit one mid-range step back, but most of his damage was done on tip dunks and a variety of other slams. Payton finished with 13 points (4/5 FG), 12 rebounds, 4 assists, and 6 blocks. Stock is on the rise. Payton should see his #17 current ranking rise soon.
SF Sean Houpt (Danville – 2019)
Houpt is an underrated prospect in the sophomore class. He is a strongly built lefty with some projectability to continue to grow from his current 6’3” height. The lefty is a plus catch and shoot threat from the perimeter. Like what he brings to the table on the defensive end of the floor with his toughness. Rebounds well and is a sound wing passer. Houpt had 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. He is currently the #53 sophomore in Illinois with a chance to rise.
SF Terrence Hargrove (East St. Louis – 2019)
Hargrove will go from unranked (because we had never seen him until November) to the top 5 in the updated 2019 rankings. The 6’5” combo forward has high major written all over him! He is a long and lanky forward with elite athleticism. His quickness around the rim and second jump is just incredible. So explosive around the rim finishing with force. My biggest question after evaluating him a couple times this season was the skill level. Well he more than proved that. Hargrove drilled multiple mid-range jumpers, a wing three, and handled it off the bounce on a couple great slashes. Defensively he is moves well laterally. What position he will be at the next level will be determined in time, but he projects as a high major prospect. Hargrove had 23 points and 10 rebounds.
