That means an early schedule of games on Saturday and a weak schedule across the board. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some really good matchups. We breakdown the best game for each day this week.
MONDAY: Greensburg vs. Indian Creek – 7:30 PM
This matchup provides a key test for both teams as they hit the homestretch here in the last month of games. Both Greensburg and Indian Creek has solid records but in 3A, they still might be a little unsure of how they matchup. Both are capable of making a run in the southern half of the 3A.
TUESDAY: East Chicago Central vs. Andrean – 8:00 PM
East Chicago has been one of the best teams in the Region for quite a while now but they are having just an okay year. However, Andrean seems to have righted the ship after a complete overhaul this offseason. Andrean has played every team on their schedule tough so far and ECC should get the same. Can they get a bit upset? Who knows but it would be their best win of the season.
WEDNESDAY: Huntington North vs. Fort Wayne Carroll – 7:30 PM
Huntington North is riding a 6-game winning streak heading into this matchup but still don’t have that marquee win to put on their resume heading into the postseason. Carroll is obviously down this year but it would still be a big win, regardless. Carroll has played one of the toughest schedules in the Fort Wayne area again this season and might be a bit better than their 8-5 record suggests. However, they might need this win more than Huntington. Should be a good, high-scoring game.
THURSDAY: Carmel vs. Lawrence North – 7:30 PM
Lawrence North has been riding the hot streak since knocking off North Central a week back, however, Carmel is really good this year and has been the underdog in almost every high-end matchup they have had. They are 13-3 this season and present one of the better defenses in the state, holding opponents to 46.9 points per game. Both Pike and North Central put a season-high 59 points on them. Lawrence North will be tested and if they are finally going to make that run to state, this is a game they need to win.
FRIDAY: Westville vs. Gary 21st Century – 8:00 PM
Westville has had a tremendous season so far, racking up 13 wins and only one loss. However, Gary 21st will be their toughest challenge so far this year as they will bring a little more scoring and athleticism than they have seen in the rest of their schedule. It’s a bit of a proving ground game for Westville to see if they are legit and can make a run in 1A this season.
SATURDAY: Indianapolis Manual vs. North Central – 1:30 PM
If there has been a game on their schedule that has been marked all season, for Manual it has to be this North Central game. Manual is having a great season and played some solid team proving that they could be a team to contend with come tournament time. North Central is not playing their best stretch of basketball right now but they know that the schedule won’t get easier and they only have a few more games to get things going again. Both teams want the win and both teams are capable of doing just that. Should be a high-scoring, fun game on Saturday afternoon.
