Carmel came out in the second half with a vengeance though outscoring Anderson 18-10 to take a 48-45 lead into the fourth quarter on the back of sophomore John Micheal-Mulloy‘s seven third quarter points.
Carmel would pull away from Anderson in the fourth with their highest point output in the game scoring 19 points. They were 9/12 from the line in the quarter which led to the suspenseful 67-57 victory.
Leading scorers: Carmel: PJ Baron 17, John Michael-Mulloy 13, Cole Jenkins 10. Anderson: Raphael Williams 20, Zakarius Milhouse 9.
MVP: PJ Baron (Carmel)
Not necessarily a highly regarded scorer for Carmel usually, Baron really exploded for 17 points in the game. He had seven points at the half and then turned it on in the second half scoring 10 more. He was 7/9 from the floor and was instrumental as the guy who stepped up when Sterling Brown had a tough game.
Best offensive performance: John Michael-Mulloy (Carmel)
Mulloy struggled in the first half with only four points but came up big when Carmel needed him. He scored the first five points for Carmel in the second half and really started the charge for them. He scored seven in the third and added a few clutch free throws in the fourth. All-in-all it was a tale of two halves for Mulloy.
Best defensive performance: Marquavius Beverly (Anderson)
Beverly was tasked with guarding Mulloy for most of the game and in the first half he did great only allowing four points and shut him down to help Anderson keep the lead at the half. Beverly had a few blocks and steals in the game and held Mulloy under his season average.
Best under-the-radar performance: Zakarius Milhouse (Anderson)
Milhouse played one of his better halves of basketball in the first half scoring eight points and grabbing five rebounds. He scored nine points in the game and was a big reason that Anderson was even in the game through three and a half quarters. Milhouse is a solid guy that will fill the point and rebounds column and he did that once again tonight.
Best guy off the bench: Cole Jenkins (Carmel)
Jenkins hit a three early in the first quarter and then went silent. He played and contributed a little but mainly stuck to his role but then in the fourth quarter he had seven critical points. He went 3/4 from the line and every bucket counted. He scored four in a row to put Carmel ahead by five late.
