They broke it open in the second half with a 71-47 win over Lockport. Check out our Fab 5: Lincoln Way East vs Lockport for a detailed breakdown of this duo along with the other standouts from this contest.
MVP
SF Dorian Aluyi (Lincoln Way East – 2017)
Aluyi is one of the top uncommitted small forwards in the class of 2017. The 6’4” angular wing played phenomenal against Lockport. He shot the ball lights out from the perimeter. In fact he was 6-6 from beyond the arc. Doesn’t get much lift on his shot. Shoots almost a set shot off the catch from three. Was very impressed with the development of his jump shot. That isn’t necessarily the best area of his game, but he really showed great improvement there. What he is best at is working from the mid-range and in with his slashing ability. Aluyi handles well in tight spaces taking quality angles to the hoop. Tough defender that can guard on the perimeter and rebounds well for his position. The LWE standout went for 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. D2 programs need to be all over this prospect!
Best offensive performance
SF Sam Shafer (Lincoln Way East – 2018)
Shafer has great size for position at 6’5”. He has quality athleticism to along with that. What he does best is shoot the rock from the perimeter. He did that at a high rate in this contest. Smooth looking stroke with great mechanics and a quick release. Gets height off the floor. Nothing but net almost every time! Drilled threes off the catch. Also hit a sweet one dribble pull up and another 12 footer. Got to the foul line where he converted. Passes it well for an off guard. He had several nice finds on the interior. Solid rebounder for a small forward. Shafer finished with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists. Should be on the low-major radar in the junior class.
Best rebounder
SF Chase Travis (Lockport – 2017)
Travis is a combo forward at 6’3” that plays bigger than his size. The senior forward was great on the glass throughout the contest. He was extremely active on the offensive boards with his positioning and quick second jump. Got to the free throw line at a high rate. He scored in the post on a hook shot, alley oop, and a tough and-1. He had 13 points. Very small college prospect.
Best catch and shoot guy
Aluyi and Shafer were both great off the catch, but we have to go with Aluyi who didn’t miss from distance in this contest.
Best under-the-radar performance
PG Matt Smietanski (Lockport – 2017)
The 2017 point guard stands at 6’0”. He has a good feel for the game. Slick ball handler that likes to drive to the hoop for runners/floaters. Also hit a mid-range pull up early in the contest. Small college prospect. He had 6 points.
