Green scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds for the Gators in the 70-67 win. Green blocked two shots in the last minute to help propel the Gators in the win.
Play of the Game: Braxton Wedgeworth traveling call
Braxton Wedgeworth of Bethune-Bowman was called for traveling instead of a foul. The Mohawk players and coaches thought that Wedgeworth was fouled and made the basket for a three-point play. The next play for Lake Marion was a score by Trajan Green and a foul was called on a Mohawk player to make it 50-44 with 6:25 left. Bethune-Bowman would have tied the game if the call was for them.
Best Offensive Performance: Ikuan Smith- Bethune-Bowman-2017
Smith led the Mohawks with a game-high 23 points. Smith also made three three-pointers in the game. Smith is also ranked No.117 in the class of 2017 on Prep Hoops SC.
Best Defensive Performance: Trajan Green- Lake Marion -2019
Green had four blocks and five rebounds.
Intangibles: Lake Marion defense
The Gators made the big plays to win the game. They stopped Bethune- Bowman on several key possessions late in the game. The Gators defense also had key steals to stop several Mohawk runs.
Best Guy off the Bench: D’Ontre Gilliard- Lake Marion- 2017
Gilliard came off the bench and scored nine points and had four assists for the Gators.
Under the Radar: Gervaris Wearing-Lake Marion – 2018
Wearing is a 5’3 guard that has high energy and good court awareness. Wearing can score inside and outside. Wearing scored 10 points and dished six assists.
Best Underclassman- Braxton Wedgeworth- Bethune-Bowman-2019
Wedgeworth is a 6’2 forward that plays well in the paint. Wedgeworth will go on the floor for the loose ball and will fight for the rebound. Wedgeworth is the quarterback for the Mohawks football team.
Best Project to watch: Traveon Davis -Lake Marion- 2020
Davis is a 5’10 small forward that is a starter as a freshman. Davis looks like a veteran at times and other times he looks like a freshman. Davis will improve and be a key piece for the Gators in the future.
Takeaway:
Lake Marion wanted to win this game more than Bethune-Bowman. The Mohawks as a team will not get discouraged when they are down and will play hard to the very end. Both teams will make a run for the playoffs.
