Play of the Game : Christian Finney – Combine Academy (2017)
Finney was a ejected at the 2:55 mark of the second quarter and that really seemed to be a turning point in the game. Swanson came down and made two free throws and gave the Seahawks a 33-24 lead heading into halftime. Combine Academy was gaining some good steam at that time before the ejection.
Best Offensive Performance : Robert Swanson – Myrtle Beach (2018)
Swanson was a thorn on the Combine Academy side all day long. Swanson had 4 back door cut passes for assists and still uses the bounce pass alot of be effective.
Best Defensive Performance : Jayce Allen – Myrtle Beach (2018)
Allen a football player brings that attitude to the court. Allen is tough minded kid who plays every possession like it is his last.
Best Intangibles : Emorie Knox – Myrtle Beach (2020)
Knox came off the bench but at times starts for the Seahawks. Knox just a freshman saw great minutes last season as a 8th grader on varsity. Knox really has the ability to penetrate to the cup and breakdown you down in the half court. Knox will be a fun one to watch for the Seahawks in the years to follow.
Best Guy off the Bench : Ben Mintz – Myrtle Beach (2018)
Mintz is not flashy by know means. Mintz just plays and really doens’t have a position on the floor. Mintz sparked the Seahawks with 2 back to back jumpers on baseline in the 2nd quarter. Mintz finished with 6 points.
Best Under the Radar Performance : Jordan Diggs – Combine Academy (2017)
Diggs played last season at Forestview HS in Gastonia, NC. Diggs should be on the gridiron with the body he possesses. Diggs is left-handed wing that plays in the post here for Combine Academy.
Best Underclassmen : Emorie Knox – Myrtle Beach (2020)
Knox will be a fixture for the Seahawks in the years to come.
Best Project to Watch : O’Neil McBride – Myrtle Beach (2018)
McBride a wing player didn’t play on the varsity last season. McBride 6’5 shows some really good glimpses of playing on perimeter. McBride knocked down a few three pointers today in the victory. McBride finished with 12 points.
Best Takeaway :
The Seahawks never shy away from good competition and Head Coach Craig Martin should be proud of that and what he does for this program and community. The Seahawks played Hargrave Military Postgrad the opening night and lost by 39 points. Hargrave Military Postgrad has currently 10 kids signed to NCAA D1 programs next season.
