Timmons scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds in the 42-25 win over South Florence. Timmons took over the leadership role for the Panthers since the loss of Duane Moss a Youngstown State commit, who is out for the season due to back injury and the departure of Duane McDowell from the team. The win improved the Panthers to 7-11 and dropped the Bruins to 5-13 on the season.
Play of the Game: South Florence offense going scoreless
The Bruins went scoreless for over 14 minutes of the game. In that time, Panthers outscored the Bruins 19-0 to take a 26-5 led at the half.
Best Offensive Performance: Tariq Timmons –Carolina Forest- 2017
Timmons also had a great performance on the offensive side. Timmons creates his shot and is always around the glass to get the rebounds to help in the win.
Best Defensive Performance: Carolina Forest Defense
Panthers caused 14 turnovers by the Bruins. The defense of Carolina Forest trapped the Bruins that led to steals and turnovers.
Best Guy off Bench: Richmond Collier-Carolina Forest- 2017
Collier came off the bench to score six points and he had three steals.
Intangibles: Coach John Schweitz
Schweitz continues to coach the young Bruins, encouraging them through the game and shows them there mistakes.
Best Underclassman: Jordan Jones-South Florence- 2020
Jones is a 5’8 freshman point guard that starts for the Bruins. Jones controls the offense and has quick feet and dribbles through traffic at a fast pace. Jones is already showing that he is one of the leaders on the team.
Best under the Radar: Quentin Hodge-South Florence-2020
Hodge is a 6’5 point guard for the Bruins. Hodge sometimes shows that he is a veteran on the floor and other times that he is a freshman. Hodge will shoot the three and drive inside for the layup. Hodge will be depended on in the future to lead the Bruins.
Best Project: Justice Jackson-South Florence-2020
Jackson is a 6’0 SG that will drive the ball through traffic also will shoot the three and rebound the ball after his misses. Jackson is another freshman that will be called on in the future.
Takeaway:
Carolina Forest is in transition Coach Brunson said,”I look down the bench and there is 35 percent of the offense gone for the season.” Bruins is a young and inexperienced team.
