They will be scouring the state trying to find under-the-radar players they should be targeting. We have put together a list of prospects that are undervalued at all levels from High Majors all the way down to DIII prospects. Here are 10 of the top guys college programs should take a look at the next couple weeks.
Sasha Stefanovic – 6’5/SG/2017 – Crown Point
One of the top players in the state is Sasha Stefanovic. The 6’5 guard is doing a great job helping Crown Point become one of the best teams in the state. He’s got a considerable amount of DI offers but still should be getting some looks from high major programs. His size and skill are stellar and he is about as smart of a player as you will find. Zach Gunn – 6’7/PF/2017 – Hamilton Southeastern
Gunn is in a spot where his recruitment has stalled. He has an offer from Ball State and Indiana is still looking into him but after watching him play in the Forum Credit Union Tip-Off Classic, we saw a player that more schools should look into. Most know who he is but he looked as good as we have ever seen against Fort Wayne Snider. Mid-Major and higher programs should take another look as he’s more than deserving of just a couple offers. WHERE TO WATCH: Huntington North Holiday Tournament – Dec. 29-30
Kobe Webster – 6’0/PG/2017 – Park Tudor
How Webster still has no offers is shocking. The point guard class in Indiana is deep and you have guys like Kobe Webster and Sterling Brown sitting around with little interest. Webster has a lot going on in the Ivy League but no one has puled the trigger yet. He’s worth a look at any DI program and he won’t sacrifice the academics. If you just look at his numbers, it won’t tell you the whole picture of the player. WHERE TO WATCH: Bob Wettig Tournament – Dec. 27-29
Cameron Wilbon – 6’5/SF/2017 – Merrillville
Wilbon is a long lanky wing that is in a spot where he is in between on the level he should be recruited at and where the programs are that have reached out. He’s a DII+ kid down the road but for the most part he’s only getting LM+ looks. DII programs, especially the GLVC, should be looking into him as an athletic wing with length and upside on the defensive end. Needs to make his jumper a bigger part of his game but he’s a guy that can fill a lot of holes for a team. WHERE TO WATCH: Huntington North Holiday Tournament – Dec. 29-30
Grant Smith – 6’5/SF/2017 – Connersville
Smith is still only really attracting smaller local programs like IU-East, Indiana Tech, and a slew of DIII programs. However, his athletic ability mixed with his scoring prowess make him an easy fit for teams in the Crossroads League and local DII programs. He could bring a lot of versatility to smaller school and has enough offense and athleticism that he be a producer at a bigger program on the wing. WHERE TO WATCH: Bob Wettig Tournament – Dec. 27-29
Juan Quarles – 6’2/SG/2017 – Fort Wayne North
The Juan Quarles we saw against Lawrence North was the player that I thought he could be in college. It was the complete package. It was the first time I have seen him put it together and it was worth the price of admission. He’s a complete two-guard who is a lot better off the bounce as a senior but can still sit back and rip it from three. DII programs should be looking at him if you need a player that can provide some offense. WHERE TO WATCH: Summit Athletic Conference Tournament – Dec. 26-29
Hunter Hollowell – 6’6/SF/2017 – Huntington North
Every year, coaches always are looking for shooters and not many are better in the state than 6’6 wing Hunter Hollowell. He is a long, lanky wing that will really need to pack on the pounds in college but long term he gives you a shooter with size and tons of range. He’s only got a little bit of interest going on for some NAIA programs but if a guy like Grant Gelon can end up at Indiana, Hollowell would be a steal. WHERE TO WATCH: Huntington North Holiday Tournament – Dec. 29-30
Anton Berry – 6’5/SF/2017 – Fort Wayne Bishop Luers
The recruitment of Berry has been slow to this point but he’s putting up huge numbers this year at Luers. He’s got size and some athleticism to go along with his rebounding presence on the inside. He fits well at DIII and NAIA programs that can play him as more of an inside threat. WHERE TO WATCH: Summit Athletic Conference Tournament – Dec. 26-29
Mack Smith – 6’1/SG/2017 – Warren Central
It looked like late this summer, Mack Smith was ready to turn a corner and so far this winter it looks like he has. He’s putting up huge numbers and is getting wins for a Warren Central team that has seen some struggles recently. Smith can give you a combo guard who has shot the ball really well lately and has a ton of upside. He could fit in at many programs up to some DIIs. WHERE TO WATCH: Shelbyville Holiday Tournament – Dec. 30
Sam Colbert – 6’0/PG/2017 – Broad Ripple
I’ve been on the Colbert bandwagon for a little while and all he’s done this season is make me look smart. He’s grown a bit but is also a little stronger. His jumper has improved and it is more consistent. He’s a guy that colleges could look at to provide a lock down defender on the perimeter and a guy that can run the point and produce on the offensive end as well. As complete of a guard as you will find that can fit in for nearly all local NAIA and DIII programs. WHERE TO WATCH: Lebanon Holiday Tournament – Dec. 29
