MVP: McKinley Wright. McKinley was fantastic again in all aspects. Madison East talked a lot of stuff but it never phased Wright. McKinley’s approach never wavered and once again he had near triple double numbers. Wright led his team verbally talking out defensively, calming guys who were engaging in some talk, and also directing teammates on both ends. He was the best player all around, likely both ways. Wright finished with 21 points (7 of 11 shooting), 12 rebounds, and eight assists.
Best Offensive Performance: Keshawn Justice. Justice has received a lot of mid and high major interest after a strong summer with Wisconsin Playground Elite over the summer and today we saw the shooting part of that for sure. Made six three pointers on his way to 21 points for the game.
Best Defensive Performance: Marcus Hill/McKinley Wright. The defensive award of this regular article should be named for these guys. Wright is nearly unscreenable as he fights over the top of everything and talks to his teammates perfectly. Love him defensively on the ball and verbal off it. Hill was defending Justice which is tough when he’s playing three steps behind the arc and shooting but Hill forced him to miss all but one shot inside the arc.
Best Guy Off the Bench: Josiah Strong. Instantly came off the bench to nail three treys. Scored 16 points for the game and 12 of that was on three point shots. Instant offense guy, doesn’t need time to get warmed up.
Best Under the Radar Performance: Cameron Cratic. Senior guard who scored 21 including four three point makes. Much of it was late but he hit a nice grove for Madison East.
Best Underclassmen: Bennett Otto. Bennett was the only underclassmen who played in this game. Grabbed some boards and defended well.
Best Story to watch Moving Forward: Who will beat Champlin? Anybody? This team is deep, big, athletic, and it’s going to take a team similar to beat them. They have a game with Hopkins coming up and of course the league games with Maple Grove and Park Center should be really good.
Best Aspect of the Environment: There was some talking! Strangest thing, Madison East talked some and they were four, five scores away. They turned up the talking and got down 30 points. They stopped talking and got the game down to the high teens. You be the judge.
Best Prospect: Theo John. McKinley and Theo are about the same nationally but I already talked McKinley. Theo’s passing has come a long way and his chase down swat was outstanding. Had 15 points, 8 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
Other: Brian Smith. Brian started cold but did make a couple threes and scored 11 points for the game.
