The 5-foot-11 senior led the Tigers in scoring a year ago, averaging 12.7 points per game and he’s off to a terrific start to the 2017 campaign.
Bloemker is highly coveted at the NAIA and Division III level and recently narrowed his college options to five.
“It’s been going really well,” said Bloemker of the recruiting process. “Lots of visits and lots of decisions. I wanted to make my decision before the season started but that obviously hasn’t happened yet. I’ve narrowed it to South Dakota School of Mines, Gustavus, Sioux Falls, Northwestern and UW-LaCrosse.”
Bloemker said he wants to major in exercise science and physical therapy, so he’ll likely be in school for a long time. Finding the situation that sets him up for the next four years plus a few years after that is important.
In the meantime, Bloemker will spend his winter orchestrating what could be a state title contender in Class AAA.
“I’m really excited about this season,” said Bloemker. “We want to do a little better than we did last year.”
Bloemker’s a rare point guard who can control the tempo of a game and create for his teammates but also excel off the ball. He’s a dead-eye 3-point shooter, as evidenced by his 42 percent clip from deep a year ago and eight triples outburst at the Breakdown Tip Off Classic. If he has space, he’s got range out to the NBA 3-point line. But he’s also very good at keeping his teammates happy and effectively running the team.
“We have so many options that if teams look to take someone away, we have other guys step up,” said Bloemker. “Nobody is selfish. It’s a really fun time. I’m not concerned with getting my points or trying to show off. I’m just trying to help get us to state. We’re not worried about who scores. We don’t have the same guy leading us in scoring every night. We have a lot of guys.”
The Tigers are currently 5-1 on the season with their only loss coming to Sioux Falls Washington.
