Kiger is also a standout on the football field, but says basketball is what he’s “pretty sure” he wants to pursue at the next level.
“I’ve had some D3 schools recruiting me for basketball and football, Adrian is recruiting me for both. And other schools that have recruited me for basketball are Cornerstone and UM-Dearborn, and Goshen in Indiana,” said Kiger.
“So I’m just seeing what’s going to be a right fit for me, whether it’s a D3 or NAIA. And my AAU coordinator is talking to some GLIAC schools, hoping to get some interest there.”
Kiger has been proactive with his recruitment up to this point, and has taken some visits.
He mentioned which schools he feels are after him the most right now.
“I’ve taken visits to Adrian and Alma, and I would definitely be interested in playing D3 basketball. And I’ve talked to the University of Chicago too. The schools most interested in me though are Adrian, Alma and Albion. So I’m just going to try and find the best fit,” said Kiger.
“Over the next few months I just want to figure out the best school that’s right for me academically and athletically. I’m just going to go where I feel most at home and where I like the campus and the staff.”
A decent sized guard, Kiger mentioned to PHMI what specific set of skills he brings to the table.
“What I think I try to do is just try to control the things you can control, like defense and hustle. And I think my athleticism is improving, like getting to the basket has helped a lot, said Kiger. “And I’ve been trying to become a better shooter this offseason, and that’s been working.”
Now a senior with the Vikings, Kiger says his role is to be a leader with the team, both offensively and defensively.
“I just need to be a defensive leader and score more points for the team, we lost two seniors so I’m trying to fill the void there,” said Kiger.
“And I’m just trying to be a leader more than anything. And just be there for the guys, and set an example for the younger guys so they know how to play our style of basketball.”
