“I’m just a type of player that’s gonna do whatever it takes to win. That’s all I wanna do,” said Chong-Qui, who has been playing the game for virtually his entire life. “Whether it’s scoring the ball or getting my teammates involved. Whatever I gotta do to win, I’m gonna do it.”
Chong-Qui certainly did whatever it took when we saw him earlier this season in the MAIT games. The diminutive floor general recorded 21 points, 11 assists, 7 rebounds, and 6 steals in their opening round win vs. St. Andrew’s.
“I take pride in stopping the best player on the team,” said Chong-Qui about one thing he does on the court that most people don’t realize. “I take pride in stepping in front of whoever is considered the best on the team.”
Chong-Qui has a 3.3 GPA, and scored 1160 on his SAT. One thing he’s focusing on during his senior year is being more consistent and vocal.
“I’m able to do everything pretty well, but I’m trying to improve on being a leader out there, talking to my guys, getting them more involved,” he stated.
Given the recent departure of guys like Evan Fisher (Siena) and Bruce Moore (Bucknell), Chong-Qui understands he’ll be asked to put the ball in the basket more than ever this year; be more aggressive offensively. What can coaches who are recruiting Chong-Qui expect him to bring to their program?
“Anything a college needs me to do. I’m willing to do it.”
