Continue ReadingAn unknown guard may be on his way to making a name for himself in his final season at Edgewood. Scoring 14.5 PPG last year, and not getting much attention has really motivated the 6’1 guard this year. The 133rd ranked prospect in the state, Cooper Bybee is hoping for a breakout season with the Mustangs.
Bybee has just started the task of finding a future school. He has visited Milligan College (TN) as well as Taylor University. He has not received any offers at this point but he says that he is sending game film out to coaches as well as emailing them. Bybee’s coach is also working with some schools as well. He does not have any visits planned for the future to specific schools.
This summer did not go as planned for Bybee due to injury, but despite this, he felt that he grew as a player and got better.
“I had a bad ankle roll early in the summer and there were some bumps in the road, but I got through and learned a lot about getting through adversity. It certainly could have been better but I improved a lot mentally as a player and my mentality changed a lot going into this year.”
Over the summer Bybee focused on being a better athlete and worked on specifically his strength, athleticism, and his nutrition. All of these things Bybee says he is still working on during the season.
Coming off of a 18-9 season, Edgewood should be even better this year. Bybee is really looking forward to the season and he expresses that he wants people from all over the state to know about Edgewood basketball again.
“We had some good years from 2007-2009 and that’s about it. I want to have a good record and go as far as possible in the tournament. Edgewood has never won a regional and we have not won sectional since my freshman year. I want to win our sectional and then have a shot at regionals. What I want the most is for Edgewood people to remember this team for a long time.”
Bybee is hoping that a few offers this winter lead him to his future college and most colleges have expressed how they like how he shoots the ball. Bybee is looking for a D2 or NAIA school because he feels he would like the feel of a bigger school.
“The main thing I am looking for are good relationships and community. I want to feel at home where I am at and not out of place.”
