The 6’5″ Kenny does most of his business in the low post and he is very good at it. He only attempted one 3-pointer last season. He is very good at posting up defenders and scoring around the basket. Kenny is physical and he has a good touch around the basket. Kenny is a solid athlete who moves pretty well. He rates as a very solid small college prospect.
“My strengths as a player are scoring and rebounding,” Kenny said. “I have the length to score over people and I have the ability to beat people off the dribble.”
As a junior, Kenny averaged 11.3 points and 7.0 rebounds a game while shooting 60 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free throw line. He enjoyed a productive summer playing with the SEMO Bulls 17U team along side some of the other top players in Southeast Missouri.
“My summer with the SEMO Bulls was very good,” Kenny said. “I really worked on improving my ball handling and shooting during the summer.”
With Kenny back to lead the way, Kennett is hoping to turn around its 12-14 record and make a challenge in a very competitive Class 3 district. One other significant addition to the program was new head coach Lennies McFerrin. A coaching legend in Southeast Missouri, McFerrin led Charleston High to several state championships before going into retirement in the 1990’s.
“I’m pretty excited to have him as our coach this year,” Kenny said. “I’ve heard a lot of good things about him and I can’t wait for the season to start.”
Kenny got the season started off in good fashion with a 21-point performance in a opening victory over Cairo (IL) at the River Bend Classic in New Madrid. He finished the first week of the season averaging 15.5 points a game.
