MVP | JELANI WILLIAMS | SIDWELL ’17
Jelani Williams did whatever his team needed in order to get this win. The 6’5 guard bullied smaller opponents inside and was absolutely relentless on the boards. Williams scored the ball from all three levels on his way to 25 points.
BEST PLAY
Not one play in particular, but several defensive plays from Abass Salah stood out in this one. We’ll elaborate more a bit later.
BEST OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | JELANI WILLIAMS | SIDWELL ’17
Williams hit shots from the catch with good range. He used head fakes and showcased excellent footwork and touch around the basket.
BEST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | ABASS SALAH | SIDWELL ’17
Salah took two charges, he recorded five steals and countless deflections. His positioning and awareness is absolutely phenomenal.
BEST GUY OFF THE BENCH
Neither team got any significant bench contributions in this one.
BEST UNDER-THE-RADAR-PERFORMANCE | ROSS YOUNG | SIDWELL ’17
Ross Young continues to turn heads as one of the hardest working big men in the area regardless of class. At 6’5, Young is a division one athlete but lacks the size to play at that level given his position as a big. Young continues to show versatility and incredible competitiveness along with toughness.
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | KARIM COULIBALY | PALLOTTI ’19
Karim Coulibaly recorded his second double-double in two games for Pallotti. The 6’9 big is still just scratching the surface. It’ll be fun to see him continue to develop.
BEST REBOUNDER | JELANI WILLIAMS | SIDWELL ’17
We mentioned Williams’ double-double earlier. His 12 boards was a game high.
BEST PASSER | ABASS SALAH | SIDWELL ’17
Salah dished out a game-high 5 dimes for the Quakers. The Swarthmore commit is a prototypical pass-first point guard.
BEST INTANGIBLES | ABASS SALAH | SIDWELL ’17
Coach Eric Singletary refers to Salah as the “mind” of the team. We saw that in so many ways on both ends of the floor on Saturday.
