Northstar Hoops – Team of the Week
The weather did its best to put a damper on the week, but there were plenty of top-notch team performances last week. There were big early-season upsets, quality conference wins and much more. Here are this week’s options for Northstar Hoops Team of the Week:
Park Center
The Pirates took down two of the traditional powers in Class AAAA last week, opening the week with a 21-point win over Osseo and putting an exclamation point on the week with an upset win over Maple Grove. Both of those teams were in the state tournament last season and beat the Pirates a combined five times.
Edina
Friday night was apparently upset night in high school hoops because the Hornets took down basketball royalty too. After blowing out Shakopee Tuesday, the Hornets capped off the week in impressive fashion, knocking off Hopkins 73-63. Edina lost three games to Shakopee and Hopkins last season by a combined 50 points.
Waterville-Elysian-Morristown
The Buccaneers picked up a pair of conference wins last week. They beat Bethlehem Academy in Zac Olson’s season debut and then took down Maple River in Waterville. The big one was the 63-58 win over Maple River because Olson was playing just his second game of the year coming back from the knee injury and the Bucs were without Logan Sendle, their starting point guard.
St. Cloud Cathedral
The Crusaders are off to a terrific start this season and added two more solid wins to their resume last week. The week before, Cathedral went to Mapleton and handily beat both Redwood Valley and Belle Plaine. Last week the Crusaders backed it up with wins over Sauk Centre and St. Cloud Apollo.
Northstar Hoops will put out a Team of the Week story every Monday with several teams people can vote for. People can also nominate teams for those polls by contacting me on twitter at M_Biggs_ or any of the other Northstar Hoops writers such as Ryan James, Jared Martinson or Alex Conover.
