Today we take a lot at some of the top uncommitted or unsigned senior shooting point guards in the Kansas City area. These are players from both sides of the border. There are a handful of players we have not seen in person that are not included in this list, and a few others that we feel might be point guards at the next level.
This list will be updated later in the season as new names emerge.
1. Steve Dulley, 6’2, 2017, Lincoln Prep (Mo.)
Dulley is more of a do-everything type player than he is your prototype 2-guard, but that is technically the position he will probably at the next level. He has a big frame, is strong and can score in a variety of ways. He is also a solid rebounder and defender and is a stat sheet stuffer.
2. Tyree King, 6’1, 2017, Blue Springs (Mo.)
King is a knock down outside shooter that really stroke it from distance. He is more of a shot maker than a shot creator, but he is capable of creating his shot with the bounce as well. He is plays bigger than his listed height is a tough competitor at both ends.
3. Dru Smith, 6’2, 2017, Park Hill (Mo.)
Smith is a do-it-all guard that can play some point, some off guard and is a terrific athlete. He is a standout defender capable of playing lock down defense, but can also get a rebound, make an open shot, or help get his team into its offense. A versatile all-around player.
4. Semaj Ray, 6’2, 2017, Bishop Miege (Kan.)
Another athletic guard that can do a little bit of everything. Has some similarities in his game to Smith, is a standout defensive player and consummate glue-guy that can get rebounds, assists and points.
5. Kenny Byers, 6’5, 2017, Olathe North (Kan.)
Has all the tools to be a standout player at the next level with a strong, physical frame, terrific length and athleticism. He is terrific in the open court and is still coming into his own as a player.
6. Matt Austin, 6’1, 2017, St. Joe Central (Mo.)
One of those that it’s hard to know if he is best suited to play the point or the off guard at the next level. He is a good distributor and a heady player, but is probably at his best when he’s knocking down outside shots.
7. Chris Teahan, 6’5, 2017, Rockhurst (Mo.)
Can really shoot and plays well without the ball, running he man off screens. He has good size and length for his position and will likely find a home at the next level.
8. Ben Hagenkord, 6’1, 2017, St. Thomas Aquinas
Love this kid’s game and competitiveness. Is a terrific perimeter shooter with a quick release, balance and form, but he also has the ability to handle the ball and create shots for himself. He’s a gritty competitor that will find a home at the next level.
