Jon Ross Richardson scored his 1000th point and led the way with 20 points in limited playing time. Sheridan only hit 10 field goals with six of those coming in the fourth in a 78-37 loss.
Leading scorers: Lapel: Jon Ross Richardson 20, Josiah Hudson 12, Preston Scott 12, Luke Richardson 10. Sheridan: Sean Weitzel 13.
Leading rebounders: Lapel: Jon Ross Richardson 9, Luke Richardson 8. Sheridan: Tanner Swindle 6.
MVP: John Ross Richardson (Lapel)
Richardson was on his game in this one. He scored 20 points in the game and added in nine rebounds. Most impressively he came out with six minutes left in the third and did not return because the game was out of hand. Richardson scored his 1000th point in the game and recently committed to Rollins, a D2 in Florida. Richardson is a scorer and does it efficiently.
Best offensive performance: Preston Scott (Lapel)
Scott was the first guy off the bench for Lapel and he really impressed. He scored 12 points all coming at the rim. Scott did not show much of a jumper but he also did not really have to. He drove and finished through traffic perfectly tonight.
Best defensive performance: Will Jones (Lapel)
Jones is a handful on defense. As soon as you cross mid-court, Jones is in your face with pressure. One of the better defensive players I have seen all season with his intensity. Jones had five steals and could of had way more.
Best underclassman: Luke Richardson (Lapel)
Richardson is the younger brother of Jon Ross and he’s just about as tall standing at 6’5. He can shoot it a bit from the outside but needs a little polish in that area. Really attacked the boards hard and will be a future D2/D3/NAIA contributor.
Best takeaway: Lapel is a solid team on both sides of the ball. They may struggle a bit against better teams than Sheridan but are still a top team in their class. The play tough defense and have a great brother duo between the Richardson’s that teams will struggle to match-up with.
