Irvington made a run and closed the gap to end the half trailing 34-29. The second half was close with no team gaining much of an advantage. Homeschool pulled it out in the end by two, 62-60 after throwing a full court pass and running seven seconds off the clock at the end of the game.
MVP: Tayson Parker (Indianapolis Homeschool)
This wasn’t Parker’s best game but he still showed glimpses of being great. He struggled a bit on the drive but that was because the defender was 6’5 and super long. Parker went 4/13 from the field and was struggling to get anything going but he still made an impact with a few deflections and made a few free throws. One of the best freshmen in the state and he finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
Best offensive performance: Myles Johnson (Irvington Prep)
Johnson played so solidly in the game and his efficiency did not really tell the whole story. He was 8/20 from the field and scored 22 points. Most of his points were on offensive boards and put backs or three-pointers. The 6’5 wing is pretty solid and could be worth a small school look next year. On the year he is averaging 20 points and eight boards.
Best defensive performance: Jacob Hatton (Irvington Prep) / Myles Johnson (Irvington Prep)
Hatton had four steals and two blocks while Johnson had four of each. Both players were defensive forces and they have enough basketball IQ to do this game in and game out. They both are quick and heady.
Best underclassman: Luke Ruddle (Indianapolis Homeschool)
Along with Parker, Ruddle is a freshman that starts. He is a solid guard and scored 12 points on 5/8 from the floor. He’s a quick 6’1 lead guard that is strong with the ball and knows where to go with it either passing or shooting.
Best Rebounder: Mitchell Wirtz (Indianapolis Homeschool)
Wirtz is a solid 6’3 freshman post player who has a knack for rebounding the ball. He had 11 rebounds today and can really go get the ball. He is smart and has great hands. Once he gets it he’s a little iffy once he passes it out.
