Now 7-0, Connersville is off to another great start. They were led in this one by senior standout Grant Smith with 19 points, Beau Isaacs with 9 points and Garrett Silcott with 9 as well. Greenfield-Central was led by Matt Turner with 9 points and Will O’Connor with 8.
MVP: Grant Smith (Connersville)
Smith is having a great season for Connersville and while the numbers don’t jump off the page, scoring 19 points in this offense is a ton. He shot the ball okay but only took 8 shots from the field and making 4 of them. He did a lot of work at the free throw line where he went 10/12. He does everything for this team and doesn’t make himself the center of the show. He picks his spots well and still is able to produce points.
Best Offensive Performance: Beau Isaacs (Connersville)
Isaacs has become a pretty solid weapon for Connersville and while Smith had the best scoring game, Beau was really good and showed a lot more depth of scoring. He was able to continue to stretch the floor and hit 1/2 from three. He’s bulked up and grown in the last year and more built for the low post than ever. He was good inside, scoring with his back to the basket and faced up. He only had 9 points but did it on just 5 shot attempts.
Best Defensive Performance: Garrett Silcott (Connersville)
Greenfield-Central is a young team and most are new to varsity action so Connersville was making plays on the defensive end all night long. Silcott was in on a lot of those plays. He’s grown a bit and is a as much of a well-rounded guard as he has ever been. Connersville went into a press in the third quarter and sped up Greenfield a bit, with Silcott right in the middle of it. He’s got some quickness but he’s tough and has a stronger body to be physical and get into guys.
Best Under-The-Radar Performance: Brian Long (Greenfield-Central)
Going in, we were told to take a look at Long and walked away impressed with his size and skill but he’s a bit of a project. He’s 6’6+ and thick and has good hands and touch when he can get near the rim despite being a bit of a bulldog on the low block. He scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. He’s got a lot of polish to put on his game but there is something there and worth a look into over the next year.
Best Underclassmen: Logan Graddy (Greenfield-Central)
The best underclassmen on the floor was Logan Graddy. He’s a tall, well built guard for the 2020 class and got a start in this one. He only scored 3 points and grabbed a pair of rebounds but you could see how his game is likely to develop. He’s big and strong and his handles are solid for his age level. Not sure where his offense will go but he could be a point guard down the road. He seems to have a solid grasp of the game and handled himself well against the size and length of Connersville.
