CBC and Rock Bridge played 32 minutes of fast-paced and foul-filled basketball in which both teams went at each other with postseason intensity. In the end, CBC outlasted Rock Bridge 60-53.
Team Scouting:
CBC: The Cadets start two fine senior guards in Josh Nunn and Sam Orf. Otherwise, this is a young team full of talented underclassmen and coach Justin Tatum made liberal use of 11 players. They want to play fast and furious to take advantage of their depth.
Rock Bridge: The Bruins have one of the best sophomore groups in the state of Missouri, with four of them in the top six. All of them are college prospects. Rock Bridge features a skilled team with an excellent veteran post player in 6’6″ senior Eysan Wiley.
Now, for the 10 Best:
MVP: Kale Catchings (CBC) – The 6’5″ combo forward scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Cadets. Catchings was hard to stop around the basket as he scored on post-ups and drives to the hoop. Catchings is athletic and fundamentally sound. He did an excellent job of using the backboard. He also finished strong with a couple of power dunks.
Best Offensive Player: Isiaih Mosley (Rock Bridge) – The 6’5″ sophomore wing finished the game with 20 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Mosley is skilled player in the open court who can handle the ball and drop some nice dimes. He has a creative float game and an improving jumper.
Play of the Game: In the second quarter, CBC’s Kale Catchings made a steal in the backcourt and made an outlet pass to teammate Sam Orf, who dribbled up court on the break. Orf then delivered a beautiful no-look bounce pass backwards to a streaking Catchings, who finished the play with a resounding slam dunk.
Turning Point: Rock Bridge was hindered by the foul trouble of its leading scorer Eysan Wiley, who entered the game averaging 17 points a game. The 6’6″ Wiley played less than half of the game with foul trouble, which took away the Bruins’ low-post presence.
Best Passer: Isiaih Mosley
Top Point Guard: Josh Nunn (CBC) – The 5’10” senior scored 11 points and ran the Cadets’ offense and kept them organized. He made a couple of 3-pointers and made his free throws down the stretch.
Best Shooters: Josh Nunn (CBC) and Ben Cooper (Rock Bridge)
Top Bench Player: Dajuan Harris (Rock Bridge): The athletic 6’2″ wing player came off the bench to score six points. He’s a skilled ball handler who can create off the dribble.
Top Underclassman (2019-2020): There were many excellent young prospects in this game, but the nod goes to Isiaih Mosley of Rock Bridge.
