We saw a ton of 2017, 2018, and 2019 prospect and there were more than a few to write about. We sit back, review our notes, and give you a look at some of those guys. Here, we look at the best of the best from the class of 2019.
Terry Hicks – 6’5 | SF | 2019 – Fishers
Hicks got more minutes in this game with Washburn out. He was able to show more of his versatility on the floor. HIcks is a 6’5 forward that has some room to get taller but also enough skill to be able to spread the floor. He handles the ball well and in transition he can make plays either scoring or setting someone else up.
Willie Jackson – 6’0 | PG | 2019 – Fishers
Jackson is a stout, 6’0 lead guard who has some speed and used that to perfection against Beloit Memorial (WI) as he continually drove to the rim, trying to draw contact and did successfully, I love that he understood that Beloit was a little foul prone and exploited that to the tune of 14/15 from the line. He had 20 points on the day. He took over this game with that play and it wasn’t done as successfully as you could expect, he didn’t turn the ball over and was really efficient. I also loved his defense and he didn’t have quite the speed of the guy he was defending but still managed to stay in front well and turn him over.
Keion Brooks – 6’8 | SF | 2019 – Fort Wayne North
Brooks was slow to step up in the first half but in the second he was a monster and Cathedral couldn’t do anything about it. Brooks really showcased his high flying ability with some dunks and a couple stellar run-down blocks. He has such good timing on his jump that everything he does in the air looks spectacular. His drive is getting better and more clean, to the point where guards are struggling a bit more to defend and try and strip. The one bad area of his game today was his three point shot where he was only 1/4 from the arc.
James Franklin – 6’0 | PG | 2019 – Cathedral
Franklin is a quick, pure point with vision and great understanding of the game. He reads the floor so well, making good decisions at his age seems so rare now. He was really good getting into the lane and wasn’t so enthralled with scoring the ball that he was finding his teammates and setting them up for an easy bucket. Franklin did show his age a bit at the end of the game pressing a bit and shooting more threes to try and mount a rally but overall, he looked great going 6/8 from inside the arc and had 22 points on the day.
Cameron Alford – 5’10 | PG | 2019 – Brownsburg
Cameron really wasn’t great in the scrimmage a couple weeks back but this was much better. He was much more deceptive and cutting and slashing into the lane to finish. Now, North Putnam isn’t know for their athletes so this wasn’t a surprise but still, it was good to see that he was attacking again. He had 11 points on 5/8 shooting with no turnovers.
Reis Thomas – 6’3 | SG | 2019 – Brownsburg
For those that saw Reis this summer, he was the best version of that in this game. Thomas is a big, thick wing that has a lot more quickness and athleticism than you would think. He was stellar in this one attacking from the arc, overpowering defenders and finishing through contact. He knows that once he gets a head of steam that he no one can take the ball from him and he will just plow his way to the rim. However, he’s still very agile and can miss contact if he needs to to avoid the charge. Want to see how length affects his scoring ability but that will be for another time. I also really loved his explosiveness. It’s not flashy but it’s surprising because he doesn’t come off as a guy that can finish above the rim but he did that a couple times in this game.
