We saw a ton of 2017, 2018, and 2019 prospect and there were more than a few to write about. We sit back, review our notes, and give you a look at some of those guys. Here, we look at the best of the best from the class of 2018.
Spencer Pettit – 6’5 | SF | 2018 – Covington
Spencer is a tall wing forward with a strong lower half that he uses pretty well to post up. He does that a lot out of the high post where he can catch and turn to make a play because he’s skilled and quick enough to get to the rim from that spot. He’s got to clean up the handles a bit but his touch near the rim is solid and can use a baby floater or layup to finish. Body could keep growing and push him more and more under the basket but should still possess the face-up game regardless.
Chandler Rowe – 6’5 | PF | 2018 – Covington
Rowe is an undersized forward with a lean frame. Can face-up in the mid-range to make a play. Rebounds the ball pretty well using his length. Will need to bulk up to max out his body but the mobility gives him some much needed versatility. He can come out and defend beyond the paint and play on smaller defenders a bit.
Brandan Johnson – 6’1 | PG | 2018 – Fort Wayne North
Johnson had some ups and downs in this game but you came away thinking that he could be ready to put things together a bit. Brandan is a long, lean guard who has a chance of staying on the ball. His best path to success is to be a point guard as he doesn’t have the offense right now to justify playing him on the wing. His handles are getting better and he is attacking more but his best asset his his length and the ability to use it on the defensive end for rebounds and steals. Offense is the key, though. If he can improve and have a workable jumper or driving finish, that would go a long way to helping him round out his game.
Jarron Coleman – 6’6 | SF | 2018 – Cathedral
Coleman was good in some areas and bad in others. I loved the fact that he didn’t focus so much on his three point shot in this game as he only hit 1/4 from the arc and was much more apt to try and slash and cut to free up some shots closer to the rim. He had 21 points on the day and went 7/13 from the field. He still can get sucked into making a bad play and forcing a shot and that is the one area he has to clean up but compared to two weeks ago in the scrimmage, this was a ton better. If he can pick his spots better, his efficiency could become an asset for him because he already can make most shots on the floor.
Antrez Baker – 6’6 | PF | 2018 – Brownsburg
Baker is a tall forward who a strong frame that might have a little more to grow in it. Baker gives them a tougher inside presence than they have had in years’ past. He only had 5 points on the day and a few rebounds but he showed solid touch near the rim and the length, which is probably +2, seemed to be his best attributes. You could see some big games out of him this year. First time really watching him but there might be something there as a prospect.
