MVP
Zac Rzewnicki (Ridgewood)
The St. Thomas Aquinas commit was great in his team’s win over Larkin. He was slick handling the ball in traffic getting buckets in the lane. Also hit a few jumpers including the game winner. Rzewnicki was outstanding on the glass as well. He had 28 points and 18 rebounds.
Play of the event
Rzewnicki drilled a long three at the buzzer to give his team the three point win against Larkin.
Best offensive performance
Drew Peterson (Libertyville)
Peterson was the top prospect at the event. The 6’7” shooting guard has great size and length on the wing. He is a plus athlete that can create his own shot off the bounce. He was money from the mid-range drilling jump shots all over the floor. The junior had 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Best defensive performance
Alton Thompson (St. Patrick’s)
This was my first time seeing the St. Pat’s transfer from California. He has great size and length. Completely shut down St. Laurence wing Justin Wierzgac throughout the contest with his length and elite athleticism.
Best rebounder
Jalen Shaw (Larkin)
Shaw didn’t play the first quarter, but made an impact the second quarter on. The 6’10” post was dominant on the glass high pointing rebounds and being a major presence in the paint. After a monster first quarter Ridgewood was slowed down the rest of the contest with Shaw’s presence inside. He had 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Best passer
Xavier Pinson (St. Patrick’s)
The 2018 point guard was outstanding with his vision and feel for the position. Long and lanky lead guard that is a plus passer. A little too flashy at times, but made several right on the money including some sick full court assists to his teammates.
Best catch and shoot guy
Harrison Bach (Libertyville)
Bach is a small school prospect that can really shoot it. The lefty is a plus catch and shoot guy from the wings and corners. He drilled them off dribble penetration en route to 18 points.
Best intangibles
Drew Peterson (Libertyville)
Peterson is a skilled and high IQ player that just has that “it” factor that makes him an outstanding prospect.
Best under-the-radar performance
Aamir Holmes (Leo)
Holmes opened eyes with his performance in the opener. The point guard stands at 6’2” with the ability to hit mid-range jumpers and use his penetration ability to get to the hoop. Holmes had 20 points.
Best underclassmen
DeChaun Anderson (Leo)
Anderson is an undersized four man that has a strong body. He plays physical on the interior and rebounds at a good clip in traffic. Anderson went for 11 points and 10 rebounds.
