It basically turned out to dual between the overall balanced scoring of DeSoto against the one-man brilliance of 2018 guard Hayden Sprenkel of North County. Sprenkel turned in an outstanding performance with 38 points, but DeSoto overcame it with its balanced scoring to take a 73-65 victory.
Here is a look at the Best from DeSoto-North County
MVP: Clayton Snudden (DeSoto) – The 6’0″ 2019 guard enjoyed an excellent all-around game with 19 points and some determined defensive work. He was very aggressive on the drive, where he got plenty of buckets. When he wasn’t scoring, he was one of the Dragons assigned to guard Sprenkel. Snudden plays with a ton of energy on both ends.
Best Offensive Player: Hayden Sprenkel (North County) – The 6’2″ 2018 guard scored 38 points and surpassed the 1,000-point mark in his career. Not only did he make deep 3-pointers, which is his strength, he showed the ability to score off the dribble and get to the basket and draw fouls. He had to accomplish this against a wave of defenders that DeSoto threw at him.
Best Shooter: Hayden Sprenkel (North County) – Sprenkel made five 3-pointers on the evening and he launched a few from nearly 30 feet. He has that kind of range.
Game Changer: Craig Theiss (DeSoto) – The 6’5″ forward was the difference in the game as he scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half. Theiss is big and strong and he plays with a high rate of activity. He is like a bull in a china shop. He scored in the post, knocked down a couple of 3-pointers and put the exclamation point on a Dragons victory with a big slam dunk down the stretch.
Best Young Prospect (2019, 2020) – Clayton Snudden (DeSoto) – Snudden is a nice, young player who competes with a lot of passion.
Play of the Game: On two different occasions, Snudden of DeSoto pulled the old trick of bouncing the ball off the back of a defender on an inbounds play, stepped in to get the ball and convert a layup.
Best Bench Player: Jordan Anderson (DeSoto) – The 6’2″ guard came off the bench and scored five points and did a nice job of changing the pace of the game with his defense and high energy.
