MVP
Talen Horton-Tucker (Simeon)
The Simeon 2018 wing was lights out with his performance on the big stage. He took over the game whenever his team needed him to score. THT is a big wing that can score at all three levels with a high skill level. He had 26 points (10-14 FG), 14 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals in a win over Gonzaga.
Game of the event
Fenwick vs OPRF
These two local rivals have played at the CEC for the last few years, but their Friday night contest was a late night OT thriller. Both teams brought huge fan sections and it was an intense atmosphere at nearly 11 PM. Fenwick got the win with a clutch performance in overtime by point guard Jacob Keller.
Best offensive performance
Teyvion Kirk (Joliet West)
The Drake commit went off for one of the best games of his career on Saturday. Kirk is a combo guard that can score and he really showed that against North Lawndale. He got buckets in multiple ways and was extremely efficient in doing so. Kirk finished with 27 points (10-11 FG) and 8 rebounds.
Best defensive performance
Isiah Jacey (Sunrise Christian, KS)
The Texas A&M commit is a physical power forward that was a beast on the defensive end. He manned the paint and swatted anything that came near him. Gray Collegiate became hesitant to score in the lane with his presence in the paint. Jacey also dominated on the boards grabbing rebounds in traffic. He had 12 rebounds and 5 blocks in a win.
Best rebounder
Manny Patterson (Kenwood)
Patterson was outstanding rebounding in volume against Whitney Young. The senior power forward is the state’s top uncommitted post prospect in the class of 2017. He was a man among boys with his physical play in the paint. Patterson grabbed 14 rebounds in a win.
Best passer
Bryson Langdon (Kenwood)
Langdon is a transfer from Utah that is fitting in nicely with his new team. With Calvin Hill getting hurt Langdon was forced to take on a lead role at the point guard position. He did just that dishing out 9 dimes.
Best catch and shoot guy
Kezo Brown (Simeon)
The talented junior wing broke out with his perimeter shooting. Brown shot with confidence from the beginning. He has a quick lefty shot and was ready every time the defense collapsed on the slasher to drill a three off the catch. Hit five 3’s on his way to 17 points.
Best intangibles
Jamal Nixon (Fenwick)
Always enjoy watching Nixon play. The Minnesota State commit plays with tremendous competitiveness and heart. He is a versatile wing that does a little bit of everything. Tough defender that rebounds. Plus passer that can score in the paint. He had 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Best under-the-radar performance
Andrew Anderson (Hyde Park)
Anderson put himself on our radar with his play for Hyde Park. The tough lead guard is a quick point guard that finished with a variety of runners and layups in the lane. He had 18 points.
Best underclassmen
RJ Barrett (Montverde, FL)
Barrett was quite simply a beast. He more than lived up to the billing as the nation’s top sophomore. The Montverde guard got anywhere he wanted whenever he wanted. Scores with ease at all three levels. Explosive athlete that makes sick plays at the rim. Outstanding passer and feel for the game. Defensively he is a tough defender that has active hands. He had 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.
