Trey Hopkins (2018) and Mason Harrell (2018) Carl Albert
There may not be a more decorated duo in the state then Hopkins and Harrell who won the state championship last season. Hopkins is a 6’3 freak who’s skill is beginning to catch up with his athletic ability. Hopkins is one of the most heavily recruited players in the state because of his high potential and smooth jumper. Harrell is undersized but you would take him over most guards in the state. Harrell is a general who makes his teammates better and makes big plays down the stretch. This duo is worth the price of admission.
Marques Wilson (2017) and Marvin Johnson (2017) Edmond North
This Edmond North duo hasn’t officially played together on the court yet but with so much talent it’s just a matter of time until they collaborate for a few buckets. Wilson is a Lehigh commit who has a college ready body and a sharp jump shot. Wilson is one of the better scorers in the entire state. Johnson is a 6’5 pogo stick who has a high motor and will defend anybody. These will be key in what success the Huskies have this year.
Adokiye Iyaye (2018) and Micah Thomas (2019) Putnam City North
Thomas was apart of a great guard duo last year and this season will be no different as PC North added the number #3 best player in the 2018 class in Iyaye who transferred from Piedmont. Iyaye is everything you look for in a combo guard. His versatility allows him to effect the game without the ball in his hands. Iyaye has great jumper and he will get a lot of open looks due to the playmaking ability of Thomas. The talented sophomore is shifty and can light up the score board when he is hot. Thomas was heavily relied on last year and he has only progressed since then.
Caleb Huffman (2018) and Tony Hall (2017) Broken Arrow
This will be one of the tough matchups for opposing guards to check. Huffman is a 6’4 point guard who has the speed and explosiveness to get past his defenders and you may want to duck when he gets around the rim. Coaches drool over lead guards with Huffman’s combination of athletic ability and emerging skillset which is why he is on the rise in recruiting. Hall is a physical guard with great rebounding skills and he is tough to stop when he gains a head of steam towards the basket. Huffman and Hall will be responsible for a large load of Broken Arrow’s offensive production.
Trae Young (2017) and Jalen Crutchfield (2018) Norman North
Young is obviously a superstar and headed to amazing things but he one is part of a great duo for the Timberwolves. Young is the full package offensively and he will make for it difficult for his defenders every time down the floor. Crutchfeild has been an underrated piece of the past Timberwolves star-studded roster the past few years. Crutchfield is a deadly shooter who can shoot the open three but he can hit tougher shots coming off screens with pace. You wont see a better offensive duo all year long and there will be a ton of threes going down in Norman.
Caleb Nero (2017) and Kobe Rose (2017) Tulsa Memorial
This duo for Tulsa Memorial can get buckets with the best of them. Nero is a combo guard who has improved his jump shot and decision making. Nero is a long 6’2 guard who can also be disruptive on the defensive end. Rose is a streaky shooter who has had big scoring numbers over the years. The recent Connors State commit has the rare ability to create his won shot whenever he wants. This duo will be key if Memorial wants to dethrone Carl Albert as the defending 5A championships.
Cameron Hines (2017) and Greyden Steinmetz (2017) Fort Cobb
There is a certain chemistry that makes this Fort Cobb Broxton duo special. Coming from a small school, Hines and Steinmetz have both gained a lot of attention due to their high skill levels. Hines runs the show but when called on he can take over a game offensively. The East Central University commit has a high IQ and has great decision making skills while slashing to the basket. Steinmetz has great size for a wing scorer who makes winning plays. Fort Cobb is coming off a Class A championship they won the Class B Title the year before. With these two excellent guards they could three-peat.
Gerren Jackson (2017) and George Price (2017) Putnam City West
Coming off a 6A championship, PC West will depend heavily on the guard duo of Jackson and Price to defend a wide open title race. Jackson is one of the better scorers in his class and he is highly underrated. The 6’3 lefty is so smooth and shifty at getting to the basket and finishing over defenders. Jackson has the ability to play point guard or shooting guard in an efficient way. Price is a new addition to the roster and he will bring another scorer who can hit shots at all three levels. Price will be a known name by the time the state playoffs come around. This duo will get up and down the floor at a pace that is exciting to watch.
Tauriawn Knight (2018) and Kristoff Hayden (2017) Santa Fe
Knight blew over the summer and he has attracted college coaches attention. Knight caught fire last year and road that momentum into the summer. The 2o18 guard is naturally a scorer who showed that he can be a playmaker for others. Hayden is another lanky scorer who can make his teammates better. These two guards are tenacious defenders who will get after you full court if need be. Knight and Hayden may be the best defensive guard duo in the state. The Santa Fe Wolves are looking to get back to state and they will lean heavily on these talented guards..
Jordan Williams (2017) and Vernon Turner (2017) Yukon
Williams and Turner may be pound-for-pound the most athletic guard duo in the state. Turner is a big time track star and can jump out of the gym. Turner’s explosiveness allows him to blow by defenders and finish over size in the paint. Williams is 6’2 and he also is very athletic but can can also hit open threes. Yukon will rely on these two to make a playoff run in March. With these two slashing to the basket, there will be plenty of highlights going on in Yukon.
