Teams: Lebanon, Tri-West, North Montgomery, Frankfort, Western Boone, Greencastle, Crawfordsville
Last Season: Last season, Lebanon was the best team against it’s Sectional opponents during the regular season but they couldn’t get out of the first round. Instead, it was Tri-West, absolutely dominating from start to finish and made it all the way to Semistate knocking off great competition in Northview and Brebeuf Jesuit in Regionals. Overall, this Sectional was really good last year with six of the seven teams in double digit wins and four teams with .500 or better record.
Contenders For 2016-17: This season will bring with it a lot of changes. Crawfordsville, Greencastle, and Frankfort are all in about the same boat as they lost key seniors that take with them quite a bit of offense. Jarrod Smith (Frankfort), Ryan Coble (Greencastle), and Konner Smith (Crawfordsville) are all graduated and gone and that means a near reset for those three teams. Plenty of talent left but the question of how it changes the style of play will be looming in the first part of the season. Lebanon and Tri-West bring back everyone. However, these two teams were on different paths last year. Tri-West is one of a couple teams that should be projected to win State this season. Lebanon will have to finally put everything together and if they can, the talent is there for them to be a 20-win team. The core three of Trevor Lakes, Will Byrd, and Alex Siegfried should be pretty good in 3A. At the top this season, look for Tri-West to be the alpha with Lebanon, North Montgomery, Frankfort, and Western Boone as the other contenders.
Players to Watch: The key player in this Sectional is Trevor Lakes of Lebanon. You could put Peyton Hendershot or Tyler Watson of Tri-West but with them being as good as they are, they guy with a lot of pressure is Lakes. This is because Lebanon looks like the best option to put some wins together and compete as the best team in the Sectional against Tri-West. If he comes out like he did this Spring where he was shooting the ball really well and flying all over the court getting rebounds and playing defense, then Lebanon has a chance to do just that. If not, Tri-West could walk into Regionals again.
