Teams: Griffith, Hammond, Lighthouse CPA, Hammond Gavit, Kankakee Valley, Hammond Clark
Last Season: No one had as crazy of a season as Griffith did between dealing with the brawl from last year or their bus falling into a ditch during Semistate, this team went through it all. They had a 25-4 record and falling just short of a return trip to the State Finals. For the rest of the Sectional, it was another solid season for Hammond and Lighthouse CPA got another double-digit in the win column in only their first few years.
Contenders For 2016-17: Things should start to even out a bit as Griffith is coming down off their crazy two-year period after losing so much of their roster. However, even with that, they still have quite a bit of talent between Cornell Hampton, Al Ervin, and Jake Dye as the core. Look for Hammond to possibly be in the driver’s seat this year as Caleb Coleman and Dwayne McClendon lead them this season. Lighthouse returns everyone. They have a chance to see their win total rise to a new high. Javon Riley and Jonquell Dawson are the keys if they want to get things done this season. Hammond Gavit and Hammond Clark lose quite a bit and are a ways away from being big threats and Kankakee Valley is on the outside looking in.
Players to Watch: The key players to watch are Caleb Coleman (Hammond), Jonquell Dawson (Lighthouse), and Al Ervin (Griffith). All three aren’t alone on their teams but these three guys are all looking to take a big jump forward in terms of production. With Hammond, Lighthosue, and Griffith looking like the frontrunners, these guys need to break through and have stellar seasons for one team to take a lead.
