Although Summit Academy lost most of it’s State Championship roster they had a competitive JV squad moving up to play varsity now.
- Summit Academy– will once again be a tough out in the State Tournament although losing all but one starter from last year’s team. PG Gavin Rindlisbacher will lead the Bears this year as he is joined by a crop of talented JV players that have waited their turn to take center stage in Region 16. The Bears have a challenging pre-season schedule that they hope will help them when they get to region and beyond. Their goal this year is to reach the final four and see what happens.
- South Summit– seems to have a next man up mentality when it comes to sports and the next man up is Kaden Atkinson. The Wildcats had a talented JV and Freshman group that will need to contribute to a strong basketball tradition that has been built in Kamas. They also return Nick Beasely who seems to have been at South Summit for years.
- Providence Hall– should have a breakout year with Coach Blake Pugmire at the helm again. They return a good young core that played hard last year and we expect them to make a significant jump in caliber of play. The question remains if they can move above any of the Summits.
- North Summit– is not used to being this far from the top and they have a few players that can change that but a lot will be on PG Calvin Hunsaker’s shoulders. Hunsaker is a great defender and he is fast! If the Braves do finish 4th in Region 16 they could be too much to handle for a 1 seed in any other region. I don’t think anyone wants to play the 4 seed in region 16.
- American Leadership Academy– will have a tough time replacing leading scorer Ethan O’Connell. They have been overwhelmed by the physicality and talent of the teams above, but because they soot a lot of 3-pointers they could upset a team that isn’t ready to play.
- Maeser Prep– had a talented group of underclassmen that could develop into players in the future but that is yet to be seen. They will play ALA tough but don’t expect too much from Maeser.
